Niche.LA Video Art presents DT
digital photography by Dave Bullock and Charlie Cho

LOS ANGELES, CA – On February 12, 2009, Niche.LA Video Art presents "DT,"
a digital photography show by Dave Bullock and Charlie Cho.  “DT” is an exploration
of Downtown Los Angeles’ skyline, street culture, and industrial landscape.

Dave Bullock

Dave Bullock uses a technique called High Dynamic Range (HDR) to capture a
wide range of detail, from the brightest highlight to the darkest shadow.  Taking 3
photographs from a tripod of each scene, the first photograph is properly exposed,
the second is underexposed by 2EV (Electron-Volts), and the third is overexposed
by 2 EV.   Dave then combines the 3 images to create an HDR image, which
contains more color and luminescence information than current monitors and
printers can display. In order to output these HDR images, Tone Mapping is required,
which allows the wide range of luminescence detail to be compressed.  The 17"x22"
photographs were printed using an Epson 3800 with Ultrachrome K3 pigment based
ink on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper, rated to last over 100 years. Dave Bullock is a
photographer, computer programmer, and Founder of the Skid Row Photography Club.

Charlie Cho’s foray into light painting has erupted into a mature body of work that
incorporates locales around the Western States that lends themselves to the post-
apocalyptic mood that he prefers. Moonlight usually bathes his eerie landscapes in
a surreal mood that he then enhances by using a variety of light sources that he builds.
Although Charlie uses a digital camera, he enjoys creating his images without the use
of digital manipulation or multiple exposures. Charlie has been recently featured on
the cover of RangeFinder magazine. His past exhibitions include Infusion Gallery,
Hive Gallery, The Company of Angels, Lucent L'Amour, and Pershing Square.
