NICHE.LA PRESENTS “RETROW // CENSORIAL”

LOS ANGELES, CA – On April 13, 2006 (12:00PM - 9:00PM), Niche.LA presents “Retrow // Censorial,” curated by Nic Cha Kim, featuring new work by Osman Khan and digital animation by Tawd b. Dorenfeld & thePOLYMORPHCrew.

“Retrow /” returns many artists previously exhibited at Niche.LA since the July 2005 opening. Participating artists include John Edward Faulkner, J. Joseph Mahoney, Kjell Hagen, and Rex Bruce.

“/ Censorial” explores ideologically grounded acts of censorship seen from 3 groups: Radical Islam, Neo-Christian Conservatists, and the Chinese government. Featuring new work by Osman Khan, the show comprises of (3) physical sculptures called Weapons for Ideological Warfare and a screening of a censored version of the Best Picture Academy Award winning movie, “Crash,” edited to conform to the ideologies eschewed.

Osman Khan uses technology to construct artifacts and experiences intended for social criticism and aesthetic expression. Osman’s work explores certain themes to see how technology fabricates and subverts our understanding of identity, communication, and public space through interactive installations and site-specific interventions.
